Conversational AI Platform for Healthcare Contract Analytics
Client: AI Healthcare Risk Management Company (Healthcare | 2025)
Objective
Our client, an AI-powered healthcare platform led by experienced actuaries, is building critical infrastructure to help payers and providers manage risk-based contracts. They had developed an MVP of a conversational AI tool enabling analysts to query complex financial and actuarial data through natural language. The prototype leveraged Databricks’ “Genie” and Vanna.ai for SQL generation but faced limitations: Genie restricted control over LLM integration, and the Vanna.ai pipeline required refinement that internal engineers could not prioritize ahead of a major industry launch. The objective was to transform the MVP from a promising prototype into a secure, fully functional beta platform with advanced LLM integration, refined SQL generation, and multi-client data safeguards ready for public release.
Approach
-
Direct LLM Integration: Replaced Genie’s constrained setup with direct GPT and Gemini connections through Vertex, enabling control over model selection, prompting, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
-
SQL Generation & RAG Refinement: Completed and optimized the Vanna.ai integration, improving conversational SQL accuracy and adding RAG to preserve context across multi-turn chats.
-
Data Security & Multi-Tenancy: Implemented governance to ensure SQL queries respected client boundaries and protected patient-sensitive data, supporting multi-tenant use cases.
-
Conversation Management: Built CRUD controls for prior conversations, allowing analysts to refine, re-run, and manage historical queries.
-
Platform Integration: Delivered API endpoints, deployed MCP clients, and connected directly to Databricks data storage for secure query execution.
- Rapid Delivery: Executed under an accelerated timeline, aligning feature delivery with the client’s beta launch and industry conference debut.
Deliverables
-
Secure beta version of the MVP with GPT/Gemini integration.
-
Refined Vanna.ai conversational SQL pipeline with contextual RAG.
-
Data governance framework with multi-tenant and PHI safeguards.
-
Conversation management module with CRUD operations.
-
Deployment documentation and engineering handoff.
Impact / Results
-
Delivered a conference-ready beta platform on schedule, enabling a successful public launch.
-
Provided a flexible, future-proof LLM infrastructure beyond Genie’s limitations.
-
Established a secure, scalable foundation for enterprise client adoption.
Key Technologies
GPT, Gemini, Vanna.ai, Databricks, conversational RAG, MCP clients, secure multi-tenant architecture.
Geolocating Mining Press Releases & Assessment Reports
Client: Global exploration company (Mining | 2025)
Objective
Our client, a leading global exploration company, needed a scalable way to extract and geolocate critical mineral information buried in decades of press releases and Global Assessment reports. These unstructured documents often contained references to mineral deposits, grades, tonnages, and exploration activities but in inconsistent formats. The company’s geoscientists were spending significant manual effort trying to locate relevant assets and tie them to GIS coordinates. The objective was to automate extraction and normalization of this data into a structured schema, enabling reliable geolocation and integration with modern exploration workflows.
Approach
-
Schema-Driven Extraction: Designed custom JSON schemas to capture key entities such as commodity, deposit type, grade/tonnage, location references, and exploration stage. This ensured consistency across varied document sources.
-
NLP + LLM Pipeline: Applied large language models to parse press releases and assessment reports, map textual mentions into schema fields, and resolve ambiguities in deposit references.
-
Geolocation Integration: Developed logic to map extracted coordinates or descriptive location references into GIS-ready lat/long polygons, ensuring compatibility with Mapbox and PostGIS systems.
-
Quality Control: Incorporated validation layers to flag uncertain georeferences and normalize attribute values (units, deposit classifications) to industry standards.
-
Workflow Alignment: Delivered schema outputs that could plug directly into the client’s exploration data platform, providing searchable and mappable insights.
Deliverables
-
Validated schema for mineral press releases and global assessment reports.
-
Automated extraction pipeline for deposit attributes, grades, and tonnages.
-
Geolocation module for bounding-box AOIs and claim polygons.
-
Integration with client’s GIS tools for direct visualization.
Impact / Results
-
Significantly reduced manual review time, allowing geoscientists to focus on interpretation instead of document triage.
-
Created a structured, searchable dataset across decades of unstructured reporting.
-
Improved ability to map exploration activity globally, aiding in portfolio strategy and critical minerals planning.
-
Established a reusable schema framework that can be extended to additional document types, increasing long-term scalability.
Key Technologies
Python, GPT-based extraction, schema validation, Mapbox, PostGIS, JSON-based structured outputs.
Variant Detection & Normalization in Genomic Literature
Client: Genomics Intelligence Company (Genomics | 2024)
Objective
Our client’s solutions rely on extracting accurate variant information from millions of scientific articles, but two challenges limited reliability. In their platform, searches across 27M+ variants and 10M+ publications produced excessive noise, with proteins, enzymes, and diseases often misclassified as genes. At the same time, their cancer knowledgebase (CKG) required consistent detection of copy number variants (CNVs), yet literature mentions were ambiguous and expressed in inconsistent notations. The objective was to reduce false positives in gene mentions and normalize CNV outputs into standard formats, ensuring results were precise, scalable, and ready for seamless integration into the client’s knowledgebases to support precision medicine.
Approach
-
Gene Mention Disambiguation: Applied LLMs to distinguish true gene mentions from proteins, enzymes, and diseases; iteratively refined prompts to maximize precision without losing recall.
-
Hybrid Modeling for Scale: Trained a local LLaMA model on GPT outputs, enabling low-cost inference for most cases while routing ambiguous mentions to GPT for high-confidence adjudication.
-
CNV Detection & Normalization: Extended the pipeline to identify CNVs in literature and mapped them into one of two accepted notations, ensuring consistent representation across the CKB.
-
Workflow Integration: Delivered modular services integrated directly into client’s curator pipelines, supporting both Mastermind search and CKB curation.
Deliverables
-
High-precision gene mention classifier with hybrid LLaMA+GPT inference pipeline.
-
CNV extraction and normalization module with standardized output formats.
-
Confidence-based routing logic to balance accuracy and cost efficiency.
-
Documentation, validation datasets, and deployment support for production use.
Impact / Results
-
90% reduction in false positives for gene mentions, improving search accuracy and researcher trust.
-
Reliable, standardized CNV detection, streamlining curation and accelerating clinical interpretation.
-
Significant cost savings from hybrid model deployment, cutting inference costs by more than half
-
Direct contribution to precision medicine by improving the accuracy and usability of client’s platform and cancer knowledgebase.
